What it is

Confluence is Atlassian's cloud wiki for company documentation, meeting notes, project pages and knowledge bases, with spaces, page trees, templates, whiteboards and deep Jira integration. It is free for up to 10 users and paid plans are billed per user, with annual billing sold in fixed user tiers (10, 25, 50 users and so on). The interface is dense and large spaces tend to decay into outdated, duplicated pages unless someone actively curates them. List prices rose about 7% on 13 October 2026.

Standout capability

The deepest Jira integration of any wiki, so engineering documentation sits right next to the work.

Best for

Jira-based engineering teamsMid-size and enterprise companiesStructured internal documentation
  • Spaces with hierarchical page trees and templates
  • Native Jira linking and macros
  • Whiteboards and databases
  • EU data residency on all paid plans

Community sentiment

What people praise

Reviewers value having one central place for documentation, the real-time collaboration and permissions, and above all the seamless link between pages and Jira issues.

What people complain about

Common frustrations are a cluttered interface with a real learning curve, search that surfaces stale pages, slow loading of large spaces, and content that becomes disorganised without strict governance.

Monthly list price is progressive by user count ($7.15 for 1-100 users, $5.45 for 101-250, down to $1.25 at 45,001+). Annual billing is sold in fixed user tiers (10 users = $720/yr Standard, $1,400/yr Premium), so a solo user or team of five pays less on monthly billing than on the 10-user annual tier; solo/team5 figures use monthly billing. 75% discount for eligible community and academic organisations.

What we like

  • Free for up to 10 users with no time limit
  • Mature permissions, versioning and admin controls
  • EU data residency available from the Standard plan

Worth knowing

  • Dense interface that new users find hard to learn
  • Search and navigation degrade as spaces grow
  • Annual billing is sold in user tiers, which penalises very small teams
