What it is

Passbolt is an open-source credential manager for teams from Luxembourg, using OpenPGP end-to-end encryption with each user holding their own key. The Community Edition is free to self-host; Pro adds LDAP sync, SSO, account recovery and audit logs, and Passbolt Cloud hosts it in Belgium/Germany or a sovereign Luxembourg data centre. It is aimed at IT and security-conscious teams that want data sovereignty. Paid plans require at least 10 users, and setup on new browsers or devices is more involved than consumer-style managers.

Standout capability

EU-made, open-source team vault with OpenPGP per-user keys and sovereign hosting options

Community sentiment

What people praise

Technical teams appreciate that it is open source and self-hostable, with straightforward group-based sharing and a solid free edition.

What people complain about

Reviewers say the browser extension can be fragile, logging in on a new browser or device takes extra steps, and a lost key or passphrase means recreating the user.

Paid plans have a 10-user minimum, so solo and team-of-5 personas both pay for 10 seats on Cloud Business billed annually (10 x $4.90 = $49/mo; EUR 4.50/user = EUR 45/mo). A single user or small team could instead self-host the free Community Edition. Monthly Cloud Business is $5.40/user (EUR 5). 7-day free cloud trial.
